Cayuco season begins
Danny is taking part this year in the annual Ocean-to-Ocean Cayuco race. A cayuco is a canoe, made in the fashion of the indigenous canoes. Some are wood, some are fiberglass and other materials. They are crewed by 4 people and the race has several categories, male/female/co-ed, sorted by age. Danny and his crew have a cayuco called Lone Star:

This preliminary race was held last Saturday along the Causeway, a strip connecting the mainland with several islands. The Causeway separates Panama Bay from the Panama Canal entrance. The cayucos race alongside the Causeway to the farthest island then come back.
Here they get started:
Near the Bridge of the Americas, the bridge which links eastern and western Panama (and technically joins South America with Central America):
Here you see the size of the cayucos vs. a Panamax ship, so named because they are the maximum size allowed within the Canal:

We’ll keep you posted on the other races. This is a great experience for Danny and his friends.
If you use YouTube, do a search of 2008 cayuco Lone Star Balboa Cup and you should find several videos of Danny and crew paddling.
