Volume 17, No. 3, September 2004
We're back from our summer furlough trip to the US. It was a wonderful time, with lots of refreshing and fun times together with our family and many friends and supporters. We shared about our Embera translation work in three churches (thanks to CCAC, Country Oaks and SBCCV!) and had the privilege of showing many of you our pictures and the Scripture portions that you have helped bring to pre-publication. Thank you to all who hosted us, fed us, guided us in sightseeing and shopping, and sent us to fun places.
We started and ended in southern California, traveling as far north as San Francisco and back, up through Nevada and Utah to Wyoming, down through Colorado, and back to California through New Mexico and Arizona. We used a Wycliffe rental car for 6 weeks and rented a mini-van the last 2 weeks. We had no car trouble at all (though we were routinely horrified at the gas prices...).
It's hard to pick out the BEST part of the summer, but if we had to, we'd pick the two family reunions we participated in. One was with the Schroeter side in Carmel, California, and the other was with the Mortensen side in Laramie, Wyoming. Since a picture is worth 1000 words, we'll stop writing and let you see some of our trip.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support during these summer months. We are looking ahead to a busy fall. Please pray with us for:
1. Progress in the translation. Pray that Bienvenido would work carefully as he finishes the first draft of Luke. Pray for good checking as we look over the draft of Mark.
2. Opportunities to visit more Embera communities to encourage believers and do further distribution of provisional Scripture portions. Pray for Maximiliano, who will be in a remote community for a month. He wants to share the Gospel with a relative who is a witchdoctor.
3. Kirsten is sending in college applications to six schools in California, Michigan and Ohio. Pray for a clear mind and organization as she juggles this project as well as a busy schedule of classes.
4. Continued growth, both physical and spiritual, for Kirsten, Danny and Laura. We're thankful to God that they're healthy and enjoy life and school here in Panama.
5. We would like to make the time and effort to reach out in friendship to those around us. Pray that we can develop a greater spirit of hospitality.
